The Importance Of Leads

Everyone knows it, if you have no one to talk to, you can’t grow a business. We all have a limited circle of friends (except Paris Hilton of course) and sooner or later we run out of our warm market.

When I started some 13 years ago, I went to markets and fairs, collected names, phoned them, sent information and visited for a personal consultation. It worked – for a while. Soon everyone at the fairs had MLM experience and was either trying to flog their own program or had enough.

Next I advertised off line in magazines and Newspapers. Again for a while it worked. I would advertise a tape or CD, send one out to anyone who enquired, follow up with a call, and then three way them onto a conference call or connect them to my up line. It worked – for a while. Advertising costs rose and response diminished until it was uneconomical.

Along the way I learned scripts from Dani Johnson, Big Al’s first sentence, Randy Gage’s how to make your first $100,000 in MLM, and studied a host of others. Armed with all this I purchased a few hundred leads. I would spend an hour a day calling 10-20, got a positive response from the scripts, but no enrolments. It was demotivating, to say the least.

Because these people already like me, they may come back to my blog and read more! This really is a win/win situation.

Where It All Goes Wrong

The reason for this post is to encourage you to leave comments on blogs and spread the word on posts you like. An organisation such as the TSA is a great way to achieve this. This is a group which comments and syndicates on each other’s blogs. You can also do some searching on your money keywords and see if any of the top sites take comments or links. It has been a great strategy for me.

What some bloggers do is to keep the bits where you praise them, and ignore anything that might draw attention elsewhere. While short term this might work, it is a flawed strategy. If I find that a comment of mine has been heavily edited and my advice removed, I won’t be going back to that blog, and I won’t be telling others about it! There were many other projects over the years, and yet, when I started working for myself, I fell into the same old trap many entrepreneurs face. Basically, there are so many things I am good at, I tend to take more and more things on. The end result is that very little ever gets to completion, and I am a pretty determined, focused person. I am sure many of you know what I am talking about.

Chasing Silver Bullets

This gets worse. As we move forward with simply too many exciting projects under way, we find that none of them is supplying the income we are looking for. The obvious reaction is to think something is missing in our marketing, and start chasing the latest fads that will solve the problem. I have so many programs and training systems, and some of them I haven’t even opened! Does that sound familiar?

Some of you will know Rich. A few years ago he wrote an internet marketing manifesto. It caused quite a storm. A Lesson From Rich

Something struck me in his presentation. Well two things, actually! First, he talked about juggling multiple projects. Well, that one hit home. Basically what most of us do is to have several projects under way at once. We may spend a week on project 1, then a week on project two, then a week on project 3, then go back to project one again.

Let’s say each of these takes 8 weeks to complete, and you make no money until completion. Doing it this way, will take you 24 weeks or 6 months before you make a dime! This can be very discouraging, and chances are most people won’t even get the first one done at all. The end result, we feel disempowered, helpless, and a failure. Our self esteem suffers, and it takes courage to get back up again. This is another common feeling by budding network and internet marketers.

Now what if we did it a different way. Put 8 weeks into project one and get it finished. Now you can work on the other projects while earning money! I know it sounds really simple, but it makes perfect sense. One project at a time.

Why We Don’t Do This!

Again, most of us on the internet have bills to pay. If you are still working you are possibly time poor, so it is difficult to get projects completed. There is pressure to make enough to cover expenses. Many good ideas simply don’t happen. The truth is that it involves risk taking to create major new products out there. Just copying everyone else isn’t enough.

My 2011 Commitment

I have a continuous stream of distractions in my life. A four year old daughter, family, a couple of successful network marketing business and associated support of a team, etc. I do this on my own right now with the exception of a web genius I have on tap. This Is Serious Stuff!

Although this may seem quite trivial to some of you, the way we think, our attitude to life, is probably the biggest factor determining our ability to be successful. If you are happy with mediocrity, working for a boss all your life, not being able to travel, and have free time, this is not for you! It takes time and effort, and a certain degree of risk taking to attain success. It is just the way it is.

Are You Prepared To take Risks?

I went to University. I am sure many of you have attended College or University. I spent 4 years completing my business degree. Although there are some things I learned from that experience, I didn’t get a job based on my qualifications, and For 4 years of my life the returns were minimal. I am using this illustration because most people would be happy to dedicate 4 years and thousands of dollars to an education, thinking that at the end they would get a better job, be more respected, and bring home more money! Fair enough.

These same people look at internet marketing, or network marketing, perhaps give it a go, and if they don’t start making money in a few weeks quit, saying it doesn’t work. Now, if you put the same time and effort into building a home based business you put into a college degree, You would probably earn $100,000 a year or more residual income for the rest of your life. That is equivalent to $2m in the bank at 5% interest, a fairly high level in today’s economy. How long would it take you to save this in your current job?

The Life of The Glass Half Full.

This person always sees the challenges. If they see an opportunity, their first thoughts are, what is the angle? How am I being conned? This can’t possibly be true? You are stupid if you do this. It is all too hard. I am so busy, I couldn’t possibly do this. I am not qualified. These are some of the thoughts of the glass half full person. They are never satisfied, always feeling others are better off, and they never get a fair go.

These people are irrationally optimistic. They see possibilities in everything that comes their way. Everything in life happens for a reason and there is always a positive to come out of any situation, no matter how tragic. If something feels good they check it out, and if it feels right, they jump in. They like someone until their trust is broken. Even then, they view it as a behavior, not the person. They use their creativity to invent magical solutions to problems they encounter. This person never gives up, and once they feel right with a direction will get up again and again until they either feel time is up, or they achieve their goals.

The funny thing is that if both of these people experienced exactly the same life challenges, one would see it as a disaster, while the other would be grateful for everything that happened! When you adopt a positive, half full, attitude, you are open to new possibilities. Things seem to come the way of these people. This is not magic. There is a reason.

Why Some People are More Successful.

Success comes in the relationships you have with other people. Whether it is personal or financial, everything you receive comes from other people. Without them we wouldn’t have much of a life. So who would you like to help, to give assistance, to donate money to? Would it be people telling you it can’t work, you are wasting their time, they can’t be bothered, OR those who are grateful, listen to your advice and act on it in good faith?

When we are grateful, open and positive (glass half full) we attract everything we require to have a great life. The more positive and encouraging of others we become, the more they want to give to us, the more they wish to see us attain success.

I hope you see the logic of this article. I talk to people very day. Most are skeptical and reluctant to take risks, even if they totally see the sense in it. There are others like me, who keep trying new things. We don’t rush into everything, but we try lots of ideas. Gradually we rise above the pack and start to move towards abundance. If there is a secret, this is it!

Your first step forward is to practice gratitude. Start with being grateful for every good thing in your life. Then extend it to being grateful for absolutely everything, even the bits you don’t like. Think of 5 things you are grateful for first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
