Why Do You Join A Particular MLM?

There are two reasons. One is because you want to make extra money. The other is because you believe the whole world needs what the company offers . This can be a service or goods, it doesn’t matter! OK, there are lots of reasons you might not join, including integrity of the company, how well you know your potential sponsor, persuasive marketing, etc, but in the end you are either just plain greedy, or believe you are offering something to improve people’s lives!

The Right Choice

There are two essential ways to market a new product, something that is not already a household name. One is to spend millions on a marketing campaign in magazines, TV, radio, etc. The other is to use Network Marketing to spread the word belly to belly. Products sold by MLM companies tend to be unique, and of superior quality that the mainstream, and often promise outstanding benefits. The fact is, they have to, or no one will purchase them!

There are thousands of MLM companies out there. Granted, most don’t make it past 5 years, but that is the case with any business! Did you know there are only 10 MLM companies which have started in the last 6 years that are still selling over $1m a month! This is considered the mark of long term viability. Very few companies ever make $100m in sales, another indication of long term success.

Getting back to choice, I have been romanced, or seduced into a number of ventures, and while they may all be good opportunities, it seems I only thrive in certain companies. The reason is simple. Building a large MLM takes time, effort, focus and enthusiasm. That means first and foremost, you have to believe the product you offer provides outstanding value for your potential customers and business partners. When you have true passion for your main product and what it can do, suddenly people start listening, and success follows!

Talk to the leaders. Many will say that business is business, and they are there to make money. Dig deeper, and you will find nearly all of them are in it for the long haul, and passionately believe in the value of the products they promote. It is your enthusiasm and belief in the power of the products you market that makes all the difference. This is the real secret to MLM success.

Over the last 13 years, I have successfully promoted 4 products through MLM. They have all been nutritional products and I have seen demonstrated results for each of them. One of these 4 disappeared due to internal wrangling between the marketers and product creators. The other 3 are still around, and I earn a monthly cheque from each. The product I promote most heavily now, is the one that I believe offers the best value of all.

My Passion

Many years ago, I saw first hand someone close to me recover almost instantly from a health challenge the medical fraternity couldn’t help with using Natural Health modalities. I have always believed in spending my time offering goods and services that greatly enhance quality of life, so the combination of these two ideals led me to Natural Health Supplements as a means to achieve vital health, and live longer, happier. It is not coincidence that all my success has been from Natural Health products!

I have tried other things. There have been phone companies, shopping discounts, web sites, even petrol additives. All of these products worked, but they were not for me. Reflecting back on the last month, it is obvious to me that the most important aspect of success is your personal beliefs. Years ago I listened to a Randy Gage cassette, “Secrets of a Dynamic Day” every morning for 2 months. It simply told me that today was going to be a wonderful day and that I would attract people to me. My business took off in that time. It was amazing. More recently I was privileged to hear a conference call led by none other than legend John Milton Fogg. He talked about beliefs and how your results absolutely reflect your mindset. I have been teaching this for years and yet there is always a higher level you can go to.

As students of network marketing and perhaps internet marketing, you have seen many offers that will provide 25 distributors a month, untold wealth, never pay for leads again, great MLM leads, etc etc. I have done workshops with Danni Johnson, Tom Big Al Schreiter, Mike Dillard, and many top Network Marketing performers. I have also done all manner of prosperity courses with people like Sandy Foster and Robert Kiyosaki. I even did some coaching calls with Blair Singer of Salesdogs. I purchased hundreds of leads and quite a few greyhound guaranteed to make you money web sites and systems.

Did they work?

Well sort of. I am a little concerned and possibly about to cut my own throat here. I developed my own system after learning from some of the best and consolidating all the information. I found a way to reduce the cost and increase the profits from any business I participate in. It resulted in sales of $177,000 last financial year and that doesn’t even include the $1m plus sales of my Network Marketing groups. I can see huge growth happening providing one thing happens. I have set up my exact system for several people. One or two outperformed me, many are making comfortable income and the rest say it doesn’t work. My mentor, Armand Morin has a saying “Success Leaves Traces”, so there must be a reason for this. It is definitely not the system, it works for me month after month, year after year.

The Reason So Many Fail.

It is important for me that you know the truth. My aim is to get you to understand why you have the level of success you have and what you can do about it. This is my mission. Of course if you are part of my personal coaching program, you are going to get a dose of me telling you that the only thing stopping your success is you! I have seen people make the commitment and draw new recruits out of thin air. They raised their level of belief for a while after attending a seminar, having a pep talk, or deciding they must reach a goal. Usually they then go back in their shell and think it was a fluke. It rarely is. If you believe you will fail, you will. To be successful is to develop the mindset that you are going to get to the level you have targeted and do whatever it takes. You are not going to be put off by all the losers out there who can’t make it and are full of useless advice. You are going to listen to successful people, hang around these people, learn and act on what you learn.

Changing your mindset takes time. It requires constant vigilance. Work out what mindset you desire and then start acting like you are that person. When you find yourself drifting back into old habits, stop, look at the reason you want to change, and then get back on track. Keep doing this until the new beliefs become a habit. This will take you up a notch. Keep reaching higher. You only see the next level when you master the current one. If $1m a month income is not even a possibility for you, it is too big a stretch. Do it in increments.

OK I hope I have made my point. It is your beliefs that drive your results. Every word you speak, every message you send, every action you take is influenced by what you believe about your ability to succeed. Go back and have a look at what you wrote a year ago. I bet if you have been learning you will be disgusted by it. Back then you thought it was cool. This is because as your reality changes, so do your actions.

Even if you are foolhardy, at most it is likely you will lose less than $5,000 before you give up! Of course, if you quit your job and don’t have other income sources while you are building your business, you may end up broke.

OK, what about unrealistic expectations?
You would never believe that people would go into business with stars in their eyes and the idea that they spend a little money and talk to a few people they will be rich? Yet, that is what many recruiters in MLM would have you believe. Of course you can earn $100,000 or even $1m a year in an MLM business. You may even get lucky, but for most of us, an extra $500 a month would make a real difference. Many experts believe that for most people enough to cover the cost of their product would keep them involved.

When you go into a “normal” business, there are many expenses. First you spend money on premises, advertising so people will know you are there. You may do a publicity campaign, opening specials or other way to get people into your shop. There is shopfitting and display and all the cash registers and other logistical stuff. Oh yes, you have staff to pay as well. Finally you need products to stock on the shelves for people to buy.

For many small business something from $20,000 to $1m or more is put at risk when starting out. This is before a single customer walks through the door!

In MLM, we spend money on initial stock, some promotional material, web sites, telephone and mail. Typically you could run an MLM business including autoship, initial pack purchase, and promotions for less than $2,000 for 6 months. With that small an expense, there is little motivation to succeed. If you have $1m hanging over your head, are you more or less likely to get up in the morning and get going than if it is a mere $2,000? The answer is obvious.

MLM is a sales business and with my methods, we are looking for customers who pay us money and help us recover our costs. We want to get more back from fast start bonuses than we spend on recruiting new distributors. Some of the people will introduce others, and some will place a regular order. It is this money that builds our passive income base.

Monetising your business means receiving more in direct bonuses on new business than you spend on promotion and your monthly autoship. Pretty simple, isn’t it!

What this means.
I would consider the initial pack purchase as a necessary expense.  It is like the shopfitting costs to a normal business. Your internet, telephone, mail, promotional and other expenses are your ongoing business expenses. Your autoship is an expense less the retail value of the product you and your family consume.

When you get your monthly commission cheque, it usually consists of fast start commission, organisation commission (from ongoing purchases) and volume bonuses. So the income from new business is the volume bonuses you wouldn’t get if you weren’t spending the money on recruiting, plus fast start bonuses.

An example of my own. I spent $109 a week on a local paper ad. Over the year, I spent $5,668 In that year I received as a result of that ad income of around $7,000 in fast start bonuses and volume bonuses. I also won two overseas trips! This was a profitable venture. As well as this, my volume commission rose from less than $1,000 a month to nearly $3,000 a month.

Now this didn’t all happen in the first month. Most of it was after 6 months. I attracted a number of business partners and was able to add many customers, some of whom are still purchasing product!

Now imagine if you did this and found 3 other partners who did the same. Imagine if you encouraged and coached them so they received a positive cash return for a year while building an organisation. Yes, you are going to be very successful! The trick is to make a profit from all your recruiting efforts and not rely on your MLM income to pay your household bills.

There you have it, a way to build a long term residual income that doesn’t send you broke and doesn’t cost the earth.
