The Importance Of Leads

Everyone knows it, if you have no one to talk to, you can’t grow a business. We all have a limited circle of friends (except Paris Hilton of course) and sooner or later we run out of our warm market.

When I started some 13 years ago, I went to markets and fairs, collected names, phoned them, sent information and visited for a personal consultation. It worked – for a while. Soon everyone at the fairs had MLM experience and was either trying to flog their own program or had enough.

Next I advertised off line in magazines and Newspapers. Again for a while it worked. I would advertise a tape or CD, send one out to anyone who enquired, follow up with a call, and then three way them onto a conference call or connect them to my up line. It worked – for a while. Advertising costs rose and response diminished until it was uneconomical.

Along the way I learned scripts from Dani Johnson, Big Al’s first sentence, Randy Gage’s how to make your first $100,000 in MLM, and studied a host of others. Armed with all this I purchased a few hundred leads. I would spend an hour a day calling 10-20, got a positive response from the scripts, but no enrolments. It was demotivating, to say the least.

I joined a few Internet Marketing Lead generation systems. These were operated by Michael Price, Tim Alvater, Mike Klingler and others. I talked to a lot of people, many agreed to join, but very little business came as a result.

The Funded Proposal

I found Magnetic Sponsoring in 2005. The idea of a funded proposal appealed to me, and for a year or so I did quite well. Still not many joined my business, most were more interested in building theirs! It did pay for itself for a while, and then I started thinking. The whole concept of this is to focus on selling the funded proposal concept to others. It only helps your MLM building if those people join you. Daegan Smith and Jonathon Budd followed on from this.

An Alternate Concept

All this time, I was making most of my money promoting MLM products. I had sales every week, at times daily, and many of my customers with some gently prompting, turned into business builders. I made a profit out of my promotion, built volume and my organisation. I developed my own systems, and duplicated it through my organisation.

Perhaps you might recognise some of these situations. It got me thinking. If it was easier to attract customers and potential partners promoting products, and there was little competition, why not put all this together so others could learn what I know! The Research

I have been in direct selling for over 13 years now, and am amazed how some people seem to get everyone who expresses interest to purchase products or join them as business partners, while other have a huge list of contacts and get nowhere!

While it is true that there are a number of factors that determine your level of success in this area, I know these things are internal as I was able to close many of these contacts myself.

The Methods

I overcame my selling blocks using some very special processes, and I am sharing them with you here. Put into action, they can transform your closing rates overnight.

The first is to video yourself in the process of selling something, the second is to get a small item and sell it to friends and family. There are many other aspects of selling, and these are covered by a myriad of courses. As you will see, the two processes I am about to reveal can cause a total transformation in your ability to receive cash from others!

Affirmations

Before I explain, I would draw your attention to affirmations. This powerful technique is often misunderstood or dismissed. In the early stages of Personal Development it is a wonderful tool for changing beliefs. Here are a few affirmations that apply to learning to get through blocks to selling.

“I deserve to be paid for doing what I love”.

“My prosperity inspires others”

“I am now willing to release anything in the way of manifesting greater prosperity and abundance in my life”

“My supply comes from God, and big, happy financial surprises now come to me, under grace, in perfect ways”

These are just a few affirmations I have used to transform my thinking. One system for using affirmations is the 70 x 7 formula. You write the affirmation on a piece of paper 70 times a day for 7 days. Each time you write the affirmation, you notice your response and write it down too. This will flush out all of your thoughts that are in contradiction to what you are affirming. If you notice a thought pattern reoccurring, it may be that this is an underlying belief. Simply create another affirmation declaring that you have a new reality, and start the process again. Thoughts have great power and changing them will transform your experience of life. One other thing you can do is to record your voice saying the affirmation on an Ipod, and play it to yourself over and over. You will be surprised how much your voice can inspire you!

Method 1 – Sell Something On Video!

In my prosperity plus workshop, one of the major processes was to get everyone to select an object they really loved, and then sell it for 2 minutes on camera. The group would then look at the video and give them feedback on what they felt they were saying. Incredible, it was very obvious what they were thinking about their ability to promote something they loved, and this resulted in many transformations.

If you have some friends who all want to get better at selling, get your video camera out, make an agreement to keep the information confidential and do this process. Simple but very effective. Doing this will assist you in creating high quality videos as well!

Method 2 – Sell Something To Your Friends.

I read somewhere that selling a small object would reveal all your negative thoughts about selling. I was somewhat sceptical, so I decided to try it one day. I was working as a Service Manager in Sydney and had occasion to visit the “world’s Finest Chocolate” These were mainly sold to charities who made a profit by on selling them. I purchase a box and went back to the office. For the next 24 hours they sat in my drawer unopened!

So many thoughts went through my mind. “No one will buy from me.” “I am not a charity.” “I don’t deserve to be paid.” The list went on and on.

Finally I decided I had to take action. I breathed until I felt the energy change and then headed upstairs to the office. In a couple of days I sold two whole boxes and felt really good about it!

The Results

Now I can sell $2,000 or more with ease. It all started with these two simple processes and a few affirmations. If you believe in what you are marketing, and feel totally Ok within yourself to receive the money, it will all flow. You will know when your thoughts have changed by the results.

Remember start slow, and build up the amount. Very soon, you will be able to sell anything you wish and your prospects will suddenly convert to sales right before your eyes!

Why Do You Join A Particular MLM?

There are two reasons. One is because you want to make extra money. The other is because you believe the whole world needs what the company offers . This can be a service or goods, it doesn’t matter! OK, there are lots of reasons you might not join, including integrity of the company, how well you know your potential sponsor, persuasive marketing, etc, but in the end you are either just plain greedy, or believe you are offering something to improve people’s lives!

The Right Choice

There are two essential ways to market a new product, something that is not already a household name. One is to spend millions on a marketing campaign in magazines, TV, radio, etc. The other is to use Network Marketing to spread the word belly to belly. Products sold by MLM companies tend to be unique, and of superior quality that the mainstream, and often promise outstanding benefits. The fact is, they have to, or no one will purchase them!

There are thousands of MLM companies out there. Granted, most don’t make it past 5 years, but that is the case with any business! Did you know there are only 10 MLM companies which have started in the last 6 years that are still selling over $1m a month! This is considered the mark of long term viability. Very few companies ever make $100m in sales, another indication of long term success.

Getting back to choice, I have been romanced, or seduced into a number of ventures, and while they may all be good opportunities, it seems I only thrive in certain companies. The reason is simple. Building a large MLM takes time, effort, focus and enthusiasm. That means first and foremost, you have to believe the product you offer provides outstanding value for your potential customers and business partners. When you have true passion for your main product and what it can do, suddenly people start listening, and success follows!

Talk to the leaders. Many will say that business is business, and they are there to make money. Dig deeper, and you will find nearly all of them are in it for the long haul, and passionately believe in the value of the products they promote. It is your enthusiasm and belief in the power of the products you market that makes all the difference. This is the real secret to MLM success.

Over the last 13 years, I have successfully promoted 4 products through MLM. They have all been nutritional products and I have seen demonstrated results for each of them. One of these 4 disappeared due to internal wrangling between the marketers and product creators. The other 3 are still around, and I earn a monthly cheque from each. The product I promote most heavily now, is the one that I believe offers the best value of all.

My Passion

Many years ago, I saw first hand someone close to me recover almost instantly from a health challenge the medical fraternity couldn’t help with using Natural Health modalities. To understand what is happening for me here, I think a little of my history is in order. Here are a couple of my not so good experiences.

NATO

This company sold a product called Bitron. It is an engine oil additive designed to increase fuel economy. I enthusiastically handed over $1080 for my 3 business centers and started calling everyone I know. I did eventually make enough commission to cover my investment and on a test run my old clanker used 20% less fuel, so I believed in the product! Unfortunately, a couple of my distributors used the product in new cars and claimed they suffered engine damage. The tyre puncture product just plain didn’t work, and eventually I believe they dropped the network marketing and went retail. The truth is, fuel additives are interesting, but not my passion!

SkyBiz

Any of you who have been around for a while will know of this company. They sold a website builder at a time when the internet required hand html coding to produce web pages. The story was similar. I put tremendous effort into promoting this program and talked to all my upline leaders. Then some persuasive contact invited me to her home and a Skybiz heavy handed sales person appeared with all sorts of promises. I ended up with $560 missing from my bank account and the whole thing collapsed pretty soon after. Skybiz ended up being wound up by the FTC.

Success In Network Marketing

Just to balance this out, there have been some wonderful journeys. For me, they have all been with nutrition companies, and they have all been with products I felt good about. The following companies I would recommend for having effective products, although I am not active in all of them right now. I have been active in Mannatech, The AIM Companies, The Brain Garden (this no longer exists), and more recently Waiora. In all of these I reached an income level of well over $2,000 a month, and except for Brain Garden over $3,000 a month. I really love this industry and have benefitted from many holiday’s of a lifetime! This brings me to Shopping Genie.

Shopping Genie Journey

A few months ago, an English guy contacted me on Skype. He found my details somewhere and contacted me about a new program, Shopping Genie. This was to revolutionize MLM as the main product was a free give away for people to save money. We got paid on enrolments and when people used the genie. He was really pushy, and kept at me.

Well, I downloaded the application and did a few searches, and it did find some good prices on some electronic items. I paid my $199.00 and joined. I then sent out some emails and one person joined under me. This was someone I introduced to my up line on the promise I just send people to them and they would do all the work. Well, a couple of weeks later I saw this person in my genealogy, enrolled by my up line! I protested and was told it will all be fixed, but it never was.

Then I saw a commission cheque of $81.16 at a time I was ready to click. This was from the 66 people I have given the genie to. Now according to my up line, I would receive $3 a month from every person I gave this app to on average. With that amount being more that the $29.99 a month, I continued on against my better judgement. Then things started unraveling.

I put up an ad on google and started to receive heaps of interest. A few days later I was contacted by them and they threatened to cancel my advertising account because of my genie ad. In the end, this probably saved me money.

I enrolled another person, and have still received nothing from my enrolment efforts. The $81 disappeared from site and became $15.39. There was one more entry of $40.20 and then nothing! The posting of this PPC commission has been months after it was supposedly earned, and I wrote to the company explaining my plight.

The response was that I could be paid my commission in a cheque if I liked. No comment on the galumphing of my contacts, the poor commission payments, or my request to cancel my monthly payment.

My Advice – Stay Clear Of the Genie

In good conscience, I am now having to eat humble pie and admit this program, for me at least, is dubious. I have a friend who loves it and is busy building a business, but it is not for me, and I will be deleting any promotional stories and making sure everyone I know is told not to join this company. I love network marketing, and nearly all my income over the last 8 years is from this industry. I suggest you do your due diligence before joining My Shopping Genie, and don’t succumb to high pressure sales tactics. Every time I have, it has cost me money!

Footnote – How I Do Things

I adopted a different approach to Network Marketing some time ago. I built systems to attract customers and over the years have built these up to a sophisticated level. It means I am not harassing anyone, and I find people who want my products, help them get a product experience, and then training them in how to make money. 1. You are making a full time income. These people have it together and are really living the dream.
2. You aren’t! This is the rest of the people who have dreams, but haven’t realized them, whatever they are. I know the kind of money people make in the companies I am in, and although I do great, I see all those names up in lights who are barely making enough to pay for their products. They are looking good, and possibly going nowhere!

Recently I joined TSA, a syndication program where we comment on each others’ blogs and syndicate articles to get more traffic. It is a fantastic idea and is already providing more traffic for my blog. When I started looking around at other people’s blogs, and exposed myself to Twitter and Social networking sites, it dawned on me that everyone is wanting to help people succeed! While this is a great idea, I wonder how many are actually qualified to do this. Many will have a lead generation program they hope will do it, or are busy purchasing courses from the Gurus which often don’t even work when you follow their ideas. I suspect that fake it to you make it is a big part of many of these fancy sites offering all sorts of programs to help you be successful.

With 13 years of Network Marketing under my belt, living off it for the last 8 years, I have learned a thing or two! Even though the internet has been a great source of leads and customers, it is only because of the sheer weight of numbers that it has worked for me. In my case, most of the leads that come from the net don’t do very well at the business, and I wonder, Why?

A New Plan

Six figures simply isn’t enough for me anymore! I figured out with a growing child and no retirement funds, I need a bit more, so I thought about a change in strategy. Here it is.

It is easier to build a business locally than long distance! That means getting back to basics. Running meetings, inviting guests, making presentations and providing samples. Then encouraging your new recruits to do the same. This builds excitement and can really get things going. There is nothing new in this.

What if you could add the power of the internet to provide a stream of customers for your products on top of the local meetings? Something to fuel the fire with extra volume to help people reach a profit faster! Does that appeal to you?

My Hybrid System

This is what I am about to commence, after I return from a paid holiday in Las Vegas, courtesy of my primary MLM.

1. Start a weekly meeting in my area. Promote it through the press, direct mail, networking, etc.
2. Offer to place some of my internet business under those who join.
3. Teach them how to build a business locally.
4. If they want to, show them how to find customers on line.

Last time I did this, I added an extra $1,000 in residual income in a few months. I am sure it can happen much faster now. I am busy putting a training site together for my team, to show them step by step how to build a successful Network Marketing business, to give them a very clear path to follow. I know I can do so much more working with a team locally. They all get together, form strong relationships, and support each other – just like the TSA! Funny how we miss simple solutions to our challenges in life.

Yes, it is true, Steve rang me just after dinnertime. Who is Steve? I never met him.

You see, his wife had a Tarot reading with me some 13 years ago, and fortunately, I recorded it for her. I have since moved on, preferring developing courses and mentoring people to really change their lives for the better. After all, I can think of no better way to live your life!

Steve said he and his wife were prepared to travel all the way to my place, a 6 hour drive, to have a follow up reading. Curious as I was, I asked him why?

It turns out that all those years ago, I described what would happen to their three children in vivid detail. The remarkable thing he related, was that everything I predicted came true! Do you think that made me feel good, you bet!

Just in case you are wondering, the picture is one of me that appeared on the front page of the Border Morning Mail in Albury some years ago. Newspapers are so into crystal Balls!

We never know when we touch people in our lives. We never know the ripple effect of our actions or advice. Fact is that I am not here to boast of my Psychic ability. I told Steve he would be better off elsewhere, as there was no guarantee I would give them the same accuracy again. This sort of feedback has happened to me many times. Like the woman who came to one of my festivals in Newcastle just to tell me that attending one of my workshops 3 years earlier had completely changed the direction of her life!

I always like to add a few words of wisdom in my articles, so it is not just an egotistical rave. Something I have learned over many years is that we are always in the right place at the time, there are no wrong decisions, just different paths depending on the decisions we make. When you realize this, you can be happy. When you think someone else controls your life, or it is out of control, it is very difficult to feel happy!
