In today’s world, meditation is essential. One thing that people can always acknowledge is that most of us meditate in a way or the other. Various kinds of meditation strategies exist, like for example chakra meditation techniques and many others. However, researchers have usually classified these types of meditation in to two distinct categories; concentrative as well as non-concentrative meditation.
In concentrative meditation the person focuses on a specific issue which is usually outside of oneself; including the sound of a specific instrument, the sound of birds singing or maybe more interestingly over a flame of a candle. On the other hand non-concentrative form of meditation involves a great expansive focus; for instance the sounds in the person’s surroundings or things going on within his or her internal body and at last an individual’s own breathing.
But, it really is worth remembering that occasionally these techniques could overlap, as one kind of meditation can have both the concentrative and the non-concentrative elements. Hundreds of thousands regarding specific meditation types are available, the majority of them have in one way or another developed into new ones over time. This work covers only a few of them.
Easy Meditation
This can be regarded as probably the most effective form of meditation in the first place especially if the personl is not accustomed to sitting for elongated durations focusing on a specific issue or even object. People practicing this sort of mediation should look for a relaxing and thoroughly clean place where they can spend 20-25 minutes alone. And with time as one gradually gains additional control then he or she might boost the time period.
Category Awareness
This kind of meditation helps one concentrate on particular things that are usually deemed helpful in meditation. The fact people find that it is hard to concentrate on 1 specific thing is the first step toward this meditation kind.
Others include transcendental meditation which is concerned with increasing intelligence as well as creativity, mindfulness meditation, walking meditation, breath observing meditation as well as empty brain meditation and others. I like to think that we have many different ways to meditate. I will admit that i am not consistent with it and unfortunately I skip days and sometimes weeks. That’s why I think that non-concentrative meditation could be a great option. If i understand well…I could be painting a canvas or walking my dogs and be able to call it meditation?
In today’s speedy world, meditation is a must. For me it is easy because I have been doing it for so many years. I can snap into it at a moments notice lol. This article is great especially for the beginners. There are so many benefits of meditation. It relaxes not only your mind, but every part of your body. It reduces stress. Sometimes you can receive messages that are inspiring. It depends which way you approach it. I find it also useful for people that have a difficult time sleeping.
Learning how to relax each muscle and finding a “center” is a wonderful thing. I thank you for posting this because, like I said before, this is a very fast paced world we live in and stressful to. Meditation is a great balance of energy.
Blessings,
Donna
I think meditation is so important. I have a one track mind so when I start something, it’s hard for me to take a break. I often feel like I always need to be doing something in order to progress, but meditation has recently changed the way I feel about that. It’s funny how just sitting there silently can seem like a waste of time, but in reality it’s the opposite. I feel more aligned when I meditate regularly and I’m a lot more efficient with my actions.
Thanks for the post,
Kyle
Thank you for the informative post on Meditation. I believe it is very beneficial to quiet our minds. Too often the busyness of life distracts us from finding that peaceful time to reflect on our lives, to clarify our goals, and to re-evaluate what we are doing. Personally, I like a more prayerful approach, but we all have our preferences and what we are comfortable with.
Peace and blessings,
Lynn
Hi John, thanks for the great information on the different types of meditation. I think meditation is a great way to learn how to quiet your mind and to focus your thoughts. I found it to be very relaxing especially when I feel stressed out. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Shelley,
Yes, I feel better when I meditate regularly, and life works better too!
I have practiced a lazy man’s form of meditation for years, Centerpointe Holosync.
I never used to be able to sit still, the Holosync made a huge difference in my life.
I have since added tapping and again have reaped great benefits!
While this article lists some great ideas for meditation, you can find a simple explanatoin of the three main types of meditation at http://johngaydon.com/personal-insights/the-art-of-meditation/
Enjoy.
I started doing meditation this year when my karate sensei at the end of a belt testing had everyone sit, close their eyes, relax, and listen to a song.
I tell you, after that, I do this once a week for about 20 minutes using songs I enjoy the most. That and sitting with my eyes closed, thinking of nothing. It really helps keep my positive and focused.
