In our troubled times when many people are feeling the pinch financially and looking at a bleak future, there is going to be a surge in people joining Network Marketing businesses. Most will do it to get extra cash, but this is not the reason I joined this industry – nor is it the reason that sustains many of the leaders. This article explores my reasons for being involved in this industry. For me, these reasons are far more compelling than the nice income I receive and without them I never would have reached this point.
OK First and foremost, I received $11,120.75 in commission during October, my best ever in my network marketing career. It has taken me 11 years in the industry to get to this position and I anticipate that this amount will keep growing. My income has increased every year since 2002 when I took this industry seriously. At that stage I earned around $5,000 a year! Last year my commission was $86,197.61. Yes, I am finally in the comfortable position that I no longer need a “real job”! As I said before, this is not the main reason I chose to develop my career in Network Marketing.
My Reasons For Making The Switch
Back in 1986 I was Operations Manager of Australia’s largest printing supplier, with a BMW, house nearly paid for and good salary. I wasn’t happy. When I looked at it, I was not happy with my relationship, or what I was doing in terms of work. I decided to make a change. I attended countless Personal Development Programs, spent most of my money, lost the house, got divorced and eventually quit my high paid job. It has taken 20 years to reach financial independence, but I am finally there. Here is why I left the old lifestyle.
I wanted time freedom.
Every day I would leave home at 7 am and return around 6 pm, 5 days a week. I was travelling interstate most weeks and away from home much of the time. When I started a University course it was even worse, arriving home after 9.30 pm 4 days a week. The further I rose up the corporate ladder, the more demands were placed on my time and the more my ability to gain extra income diminished. It just kept getting worse. Time freedom is probably my biggest reason for change.
I wanted to Follow My Passion.
After I started on the Personal Development path, I quickly realized that I was on this planet to empower others and teach them what was necessary to break free of the land of “tick tock”, where you sacrifice your soul to pay the bills. I lapped up everything on prosperity, created my own seminars, and helped many people change their financial situations. One of my earlier students is Karen Corban, Managing Director of Universal Events, a very successful promotions company that sponsors Chris Howard NLP seminars in Australia. I launched my own events where I gathered a variety of top presenters to empower others to move beyond their limitations. I loved this phase of my life. What I didn’t realize was that I was about to find another way to do all the things I loved. One that would reward me financially as well.
I have a family
Skye, our daughter is now 2 ½ years old. I am privileged to be able to spend plenty of quality time with her. It is a juggle with business expansion, but imagine going to work and having no time with the family? This is a compelling reason for me to be very satisfied I chose the path of Network Marketing.
The Power Of The Internet
It is the internet that has really changed the way I live. Now I can publish articles, build web sites and sales systems, use tele-seminars and many other ways to build my empire all from my desk, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. My expertise in this area has really cut down on time and increased my leveraging power.
How I Choose My Business Ventures
I believed in the concept of leverage. Everything I do has to meet two criteria. Can it be leveraged? Does it fit in with my life goals and direction? If a venture doesn’t meet these, I don’t do it. I have a passion for improving people’s lives, so making money for money’s sake doesn’t interest me. Anything I do must add real value to people’s life experience. I am happy to say that all components of my businesses do just that. It makes it easy for me to choose what to get involved with.
Residual Income.
Robert Kiyosaki taught me that to make money, you need to make a little off each transaction and then repeat the process. This always stuck in my mind. When I looked into Network Marketing, I discovered that this was a business that followed Robert’s model. We build our networks a brick at a time. Each new person provides a little more income and if we get enough, we get a large income and become financially free. Most are satisfied with a few hundred dollars a month, not hard to do in my opinion, and some, like me, make thousands and become financially free.
Why Am I Doing What I do?
Now you know! I am following my passion in life. I have time freedom. I can live anywhere I wish. I can spend as much time with my family as I want to. My hours are totally flexible. We are off to Las Vegas next month on the fourth reward trip in 2 years and I expect it will not affect my business. That’s true financial freedom!
What Does This Mean For You?
Think about your life. How secure are you? We live in volatile times, where jobs are no longer guaranteed. Investments are no longer returning huge dividends. Ask yourself, am I able to do what I really want in life in my current situation? If you need more time, a better family life, have a passion you can’t do because of work or business, you might just consider the life I have.
